For over half a century, Union Corrugating Company has served the metal building components market. The company was launched in 1946 when Mr. J. E. Union left West Virginia with his manually operated corrugating machine and settled in Fayetteville, NC. By the early 1950s, J.E. had built a small business that was struggling to survive.
In 1954, Hurricane Hazel tore through eastern North Carolina causing tremendous damage. The day after the storm, pickup trucks lined up outside the gates of Union Corrugating, the only local manufacturer, to purchase metal roofing. J.E.’s foreman said, “What price should we charge today? This is our opportunity to really bring in the extra money to pay our bills.” J.E. responded, “We’ll charge the same price today that we charge every day and not a penny more.” From that day forward, the business flourished as word spread about the company’s reputation for fairness, honesty, and concern about its customers.Today, Union Corrugating Company is an industry leader serving the residential, commercial, and agricultural roofing and siding markets from 10 manufacturing facilities located throughout the central and eastern US.
